Hello! I am the Student Pastor at Morristown UMC, and I am very excited to be here. I am a student at Drew Theological School working on a Master of Divinity, which I began at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. I am a certified candidate for ordination through the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. I moved to New Jersey with my wife, Zion (Seung-yeon Yi), who is pursuing a PhD in Linguistics at the City University of New York—and we are just getting used to life on the East Coast.

My wife and I met while volunteering with an interdenominational organization, Youth With a Mission (YWAM). We traveled with teams and spent time in Brazil, India, and Ethiopia serving in various ministries, such as feeding homeless, building orphanages, preaching revivals, and leading worship.

After YWAM, I served for a year as a youth pastor and high school mathematics teacher. I then took on the role of a local supply pastor in Eastern Kentucky for three years while simultaneously completing a Master of Public Administration, teaching mathematics, and working as the Developmental Education Coordinator at Morehead State University. Struggling to keep up with my school work and a full-time job as an administrator, my experiences as a supply pastor helped me recognize the special role pastors play in the lives of God’s people and the heart and purpose God has for his church. My goal is to be fully ordained as an elder in the United Methodist Church, to serve as a pastor, to continue my education, and to eventually teach theology. So far my wife and I have found Morristown UMC a very welcoming faith community, and I am hoping that my time serving at Morristown UMC will help me in discerning God’s call as I continue further down this path.
